Entry Requirements:
Candidates should
(a) (i) have Level 2 or equivalent (Note 3) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) (Note 4&5), or equivalent; or
(ii) have Level 2 (Note 6) / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) (Note 4&5), or equivalent;
(b) (i) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note 6) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE (Note 5), or equivalent; or have a pass result in Chinese and English language tests for Police Constable recruitment exercise; and
(ii) be able to speak fluent Cantonese;
(c) pass an eyesight test which includes a visual acuity test and a colour perception test. Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses may also apply for the post. Applicants may perform visual acuity tests with the aid of eyesight correction tools except for colour perception tests;
(d) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [Note (7)]; and
(e) pass a medical examination (including a urine drug test).

Note:
(1) Assistant Specialist belongs to the rank of Police Constable (Specialist). Successful candidate(s) will be appointed to the rank of Police Constable (Specialist) and will be required to discharge the full range of duties of that rank.
(2) With effect from 1st April 2009, new recruits to Police Constable (Specialist) are eligible for 5 Long Service Increments from $43,610 (Police Pay Scale Point 18) to $49,035 (Police Pay Scale Point 22) upon completion of 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 years of satisfactory in-rank service.
(3) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” and “Attained with Distinction (I)” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(4) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(5) Students who will attain the requisite academic qualification within the current academic year may also apply; if selected, appointment will be subject to their obtaining the requisite academic qualification within the current academic year. Final year undergraduate students graduating in the academic year of 2026 and penultimate year undergraduate students graduating in the academic year of 2027 may also apply.
(6) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(7) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.

(b) developing software and hardware for technical and operational applications;
(c) building prototypes for testing and evaluation; and
(d) operating and maintaining equipment to support law enforcement operations.
(Note : May be required to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays, and will be subject to discipline under the Police Force Ordinance.)

Terms of Appointment:
Assistant Specialist belongs to the rank of Police Constable (Specialist). Successful candidate(s) will be appointed to the rank of Police Constable (Specialist) on civil service agreement terms for three years. Offer of further employment is solely at the discretion of the Government.
