General Accountability
With significant growth in the UHNW/HNW, private banks, and retail wealth sectors in Asia, the Head of Intermediaries GWAM Asia will focus on the overall intermediaries’ business proposition and strategy in Asia. He/She will be accountable for delivering the long-term strategic plan and business goals by driving sustainable sales and AUM growth through intermediaries’ partners. He/She will also serve as a relationship gatekeeper and interface with Manulife’s senior management and strategic business partners across Asia. Additionally, the role involves working closely with our global and Asia investment teams to co-create new investment strategies and solutions for retail distribution in Asia.
The position reports to the Asia CEO of Wealth and Asset Management and is a member of the Asia WAM Leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate the partners and intermediaries’ strategies, in partnership with Asia WAM CEOs to drive results consistently and in alignment with the partners and Manulife Strategy. The incumbent is the senior executive in charge of the relationships with the intermediaries and partners across the region and leverages the Manulife relationships to develop new business opportunities. The incumbent will leverage the existing relationships that exist across 10 countries in Asia and will look for opportunities to leverage those across the region, opening new markets for the partners within the Manulife network. Responsible for the results, AUM growth and for increasing Manulife market share with the intermediary partners. The incumbent is expected to open new relationships and to develop existing ones.
Work closely with our global and Asia investment and product teams to co-create new investment strategies and solutions for retail distribution in Asia. Attract, engage, and retain talent to ensure the installation of appropriate team members to support business growth across WAM Asia.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies/Education:
- 15 or more years of experience and a proven track record in distribution partnership development.
- Sound knowledge of equities, fixed income, multi-asset, and solution products, with an understanding of mutual fund market trends and movements. Ideally, a proven ability to identify product trends and advise in the design of products to meet investor needs.
- Deep knowledge and experience in relevant markets in the region, with strong relationships with key gatekeepers in retail banking institutions, private banks, UHNW/HNW clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Understanding strategy and business development processes, practices, and applications, along with sound knowledge of the operational and regulatory frameworks for intermediary investment markets.
- Strategic sales skills and the ability to take an entrepreneurial approach to growing Manulife’s market share among intermediaries, demonstrating creativity, a focus on execution, and a proven passion for business development.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a sales force, create and articulate a vision, develop tangible strategies and plans, and mobilize a multi-country team and the broader business to implement this vision.
- High level of energy, enthusiasm, and passion for results, with strong integrity and high ethical standards. Works well in a global and matrix organization.
- A track record of recruiting, coaching and managing high performance sales and professionals.
- University graduates with good academic qualifications. CFA strongly preferred.
