The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice-President, depending on qualification and experience, for Institutional Advancement (Global Engagement). This role is vital to enhancing HKUST’s international and Greater China presence through the development of global networks, strategic collaborations, and increased visibility.
The Role
Reporting to and working closely with the Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, the Assistant Vice-President for Institutional Advancement (Global Engagement) plays a pivotal role in advancing the University’s global presence, strategic partnerships, reputation, and societal impact. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to advance the University’s global engagement, visibility, and influence across academic, research, and industry domains;
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with leading institutions, international organizations, and global networks that align with the University’s mission and priorities;
- Facilitate academic missions, delegation visits, and global outreach activities to strengthen the University’s international presence;
- Represent the University in high-level global forums, strategic networks, and international engagements to elevate its global standing;
- Collaborate with academic and administrative units to promote an integrated and coordinated approach to internationalization across the University;
- Partner with the branding and marketing team to provide leadership in strategies that support the University’s globalization efforts and international reputation
- Provide leadership and coordination for key institutional projects and initiatives as delegated by the Vice-President for Institutional Advancement; and
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Vice-President for Institutional Advancement.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:
- A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a recognized university, with an academic background and leadership experience in a university setting;
- At least 10+ year of management experiences in higher education, with a strong track record in global engagement, international partnerships, or academic leadership;
- Comprehensive understanding of global trends and collaboration models in higher education;
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-unit initiatives and build strategic partnerships with universities, industries, governments, and international organizations;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to represent the University on the global stage;
- Strong cultural intelligence and effectiveness in navigating diverse international contexts;
- A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with the capability to engage and motivate teams;
- Strong decision-making capabilities, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of stakeholders in a dynamic environment;
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, and alignment with the University’s mission and values; and
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua).
