THE ROLE
We are currently recruiting an Equity Research Analyst to join our established Opportunistic Value (Opp Value) Portfolio Management team. This team manages approximately US$28 billion in value strategies across global, international, and U.S. opportunity sets.The team employs a bottom-up stock selection approach, unconstrained by benchmarks, and driven by intensive fundamental research and direct access to corporate decision-makers.
This analyst role will have a regional focus on alpha generation opportunities across Asia. Success in the role will require both independent idea generation and the ability to identify and filter top ideas from Wellington Management colleagues in the region that align with the Opportunistic Value team’s investment style.
The role reports to the Director of Equity Boutique and can be based in either our Hong Kong or Singapore office.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
The following essential skills are required for the role:
- Contrarian/Value investing acumen and passion – The analyst should bring both experience and passion for investing stocks, with a clear alignment to a value-oriented approach. They will apply rigorous, bottom-up fundamental research to develop differentiated investment insights and effectively communicate their findings to the Opportunistic Value portfolio manager. A strong candidate will demonstrate a fundamentally driven, research-intensive mindset, while also incorporating top-down perspectives—such as sector dynamics and macroeconomic trends—into their analysis. Additionally, they should be able to evaluate ideas through a highly analytical and detail-oriented lens, ensuring alignment with the team’s overall portfolio philosophy and investment process.
- Superior collaboration and influencing skills – The successful candidate will thrive as an individual contributor within a highly collaborative team environment. They will build strong, trusting relationships both internally with colleagues and externally with company management teams. A willingness to take thoughtful risks and challenge prevailing investment views is essential, as is the humility to acknowledge mistakes and a genuine desire to learn from others. The candidate should value diverse perspectives and be able to engage meaningfully with investors who bring different investment styles. Strong communication skills in both verbal and written—are critical. The ability to express clear, action-oriented opinions with conviction and contribute constructively to open investment dialogue will be key to success in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS
Additional qualifications and characteristics:
- A minimum of 10+ years of relevant investing experience with demonstrated success in evaluating multiple sectors and business models.
- A strong track record of making successful investment recommendations and generating alpha across multiple dimensions i.e. different countries or sectors to demonstrate breadth and opportunistic mindset
- Strong bottom-up fundamental approach to research
- Philosophical alignment with the team’s approach on contrarian/value investing
- Intellectual curiosity and comfort taking risks
- Self-starter/ self-directed with portfolio management team based in the U.S.
- Self-awareness and self-confidence to be comfortable “being wrong”
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience in a collaborative, team-based, results-oriented environment
- Strong academic credentials, MBA/CFA preferred.
