Job Title: Part-time Pastoral Care Assistant/ Associate Counsellor
Working Hours: 15–20 hours per week, flexible schedule
Contract Type: Part-time
Job Purpose:
To support the emotional, social, and personal development of students by assisting in the delivery of pastoral care services. The role involves working closely with students, staff, and families to promote student well-being and a positive school environment. It also involves preventive work such as conducting research on students’ mental wellness, the effectiveness of school-based social and emotional learning programmes, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students experiencing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges.
- Assist in the implementation of pastoral care programs and initiatives.
- Support students in developing resilience, self-esteem, and positive relationships.
- Liaise with teaching staff to identify students in need of pastoral support.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops, assemblies, and activities related to well-being and personal development.
- Support the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Refer students to appropriate internal or external support services when necessary.
- Participate in staff meetings and training related to pastoral care.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience working with young people in an educational or youth work setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Basic understanding of child protection and safeguarding principles
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications in counseling, youth work, psychology, or education
- Experience in organizing student well-being programs or activities
- Familiarity with school pastoral systems and support structures
- Proficiency in research methods
Additional Information:
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo background checks and safeguarding training
- Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet student needs
