The role is for a seasoned Project consultant in the APAC Risk team based in HK, reporting directly into the Head of APAC Risk and dotted to Head of Asia New Business.
The manager will lead strategic risk initiatives within the Bank, focusing on regulatory compliance, market and credit risk frameworks, and operational resilience. This role requires strong project management skills, deep understanding of investment banking products, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments such as Basel III, Volcker, FRTB, and ICAAP. It involves close collaboration with trading desks, operations, finance, compliance, and technology teams to ensure robust project deliveries and timeline management.
To succeed in this role, the candidate must serve as a strategic partner to the Head of Risk and COO, overseeing the operational, governance, and strategic execution of risk management initiatives across the bank. He/she must ensure that risk frameworks, regulatory obligations, and business processes are aligned and effectively managed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage risk-related projects across trading, sales, and risk control functions.
- Drive risk transformation initiatives including monitoring, process automation, data quality improvements and system upgrades.
- Coordinate implementation of regulatory frameworks (e.g., Basel III, FRTB, Volcker).
- Oversee risk data aggregation, reporting enhancements, and system upgrades.
- Liaise with front office, risk, finance, new business and compliance teams to align project goals.
- Track project milestones, budgets, and deliverables.
- Prepare documentation for internal governance and external regulatory reviews.
- Support stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital planning initiatives.
- Partner with internal audit, compliance, and technology to strengthen control environments.
Skills
The following skills and experience are required for this role:
- Strong knowledge of trading products (e.g., derivatives, equities, fixed income).
- Familiarity with market risk, credit risk, and counterparty risk concepts.
- Experience with regulatory frameworks: Basel III, FRTB.
- Strong understanding of trading operations, settlement processes, and risk controls.
- Ability to engage with, influence and obtain support from a broad range of stakeholders including Front Office, Technology team, Corporate functions, COOs and senior management.
- Ability to participate in risk project committees, new businesses committees and manage a book of work.
- Excellent oral and written communication, planning, project management, networking and influencing, team coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under challenging time pressures in a variety of different situations.
- Highly motivated individual with a passion for continued individual learning and personal development.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in investment banking, risk management, or COO functions.
- Experience with risk systems (e.g., Murex, Bloomberg, RiskMetrics).
- Experience with data analytics and risk reporting dashboards.
- Understanding of quantitative risk models and capital calculations.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Lingual in Japanese is an advantage.
