The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)
You will be responsible for:
- assisting the Community and Engagement unit of the Learning and Engagement Team to support the development and implementation of exhibition projects, learning and community engagement programmes;
- assisting in implementing programmes to support the Museum’s Volunteer Programme and Docent Programme as well as ensuring that we retain an excellent volunteer and docent experience;
- assisting to organize professional training on various subjects to volunteers and docents and sustainably elevate their work standard;
- preparing training materials on thematic and special exhibitions for internal training purpose;
- coordinating the group visits with internal departments and various stakeholder groups;
- assisting the Learning and Engagement section in other events and activities with administrative and operational support when needed; and
- performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.
You should:
- possess a recognised university degree, preferably in cultural management, performing arts, education, Chinese art, history, museum studies, or equivalent;
- preferably have 1-2 years of relevant work experience in learning, interpretation, or community engagement programmes in a performing art, cultural or educational organisation;
- possess the ability to work across the whole range of audiences and act as a bridge between the Museum and the public;
- have strong skills in content development, interest and curiosity for Chinese art and culture, performing arts, or museum learning;
- be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiar with performing arts production, front-of-house operation or event operation;
- be self-motivated and able to work independently and cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment;
- be highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple learning projects concurrently;
- be able to work on irregular work hours including weekends, evenings and holidays if necessary for supporting the events; and
- have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
