JOB TITLE: Teaching Assistant
REPORTS TO: Principal via Senior Teacher/Classroom Teacher
RECEIVES INSTRUCTIONS FROM: Classroom Teacher
PURPOSE OF JOB: To provide support and assist teachers in the development and education of students at Oxbridge School, by undertaking teaching and non-teaching tasks related to classroom activities and/or one to one tuition, and by providing basic supervision and care skills. Teaching assistants at Oxbridge School can expect a varied and full timetable of classroom support, one to one, PE and games activities, ECA’s and duties.

The ability to manage children and young people’s behaviour

JOB DUTIES:
A. Supporting the student
To help children to complete tasks, by:
Clarifying and explaining instructions
Ensuring the student is able to use necessary equipment
Motivating and encouraging the student/s
Assisting in areas of specific weakness
Helping student/s to concentrate on and finish work set
Assisting in the management of students’ social interactions and behaviour
To look after children who are upset or have had accidents
To take all reasonable measures to ensure health and safety in the classroom and other relevant areas within and outside the school premises
To supervise group activities, including break times, outings and sports events
To support students during lessons, transition to other classes and during less structured times such as play;
To listen to children read, read to them or tell them stories
To teach one to one lessons to students (ESL or learning enhancement) as required
B. Supporting the Teachers
To help teachers to plan learning activities that match students’ development needs and complete records
To prepare the classroom for lessons and clearing away afterwards
To provide feedback about students’ difficulties and/or progress to the Teacher
To assist in all specialist lessons where required
To help teachers manage class behaviour
To assist the Class Teacher with classroom displays
C. Supporting the school
To lead regular ECA activities for students according to the requirements of the school
To teach one to one lessons with individual students as needed - usually ESL or social skills
To undertake regular break time and lunchtime duties in accordance with timetable provided
To attend Open Days, School fairs and Special events as required
To contribute to parent/teacher meetings, as appropriate
To participate in relevant professional development and staff meetings
To be fully aware of / follow school policies and procedures
To maintain confidentiality about home-school/student-teacher/school work matters
To complete any other task as directed by the Principal
