About the role
We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated Trainee Legal Assistant to join our dedicated Abuse Law team on a full-time, 12-month contract. Based in our Melbourne CBD office, you’ll contribute meaningfully by supporting a diverse and impactful caseload of Abuse Law matters.

Key Responsibilities:
- Answer incoming client enquiries and assist or transfer calls where appropriate
- Provide accurate updates and information to clients within a timely manner and manage expectations
- Manage the administration of client files from open to close
- Produce client correspondence and documents
- Prepare Court documents and briefs
- Liaise with Courts, barristers, defendant solicitors and doctors
- Arrange and manage diaries, appointments and meetings
- Action incoming and outgoing mail
- Prepare bills for clients
- Any other generalist administrative tasks as requested
Key Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the legal field, ideally with exposure to Personal Injuries law through study, internship, or work experience
- Compassionate, resilient, and emotionally mature to engage with sensitive and challenging subject matter
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with a willingness to learn and improve
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and remain calm under pressure
- Willingness to work independently with guidance, and collaboratively within a team environment
- Proactive attitude with enthusiasm and initiative to take on new challenges
- Comfortable in fast-paced environments and committed to meeting deadlines
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all work
- Clear and professional communication skills – verbal, written, and interpersonal
- Ability to build rapport and maintain respectful relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Sound judgement and awareness of when to escalate issues or seek support from supervisors
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with a willingness to develop technical skills further
