Lecturer II / Assistant Lecturer (English Section) – Two Positions (24250347)
Responsibilities:
The appointees are expected to (i) teach core and elective credit-bearing courses, language enhancement courses, workshops and services, and other English courses assigned by the Language Centre; (ii) assist in the design and development of course syllabuses, teaching materials and assessment tasks, as well as the creation of self-access language learning materials; (iv) assist in organising events, workshops and extracurricular activities; and (v) perform other duties assigned by the Language Centre.
Requirements:
For Lecturer II, applicants should have a good postgraduate qualification, preferably a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field, and native or near-native proficiency in English. A minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience at the tertiary level is required. Possession of a postgraduate teaching certificate/diploma and a proven record of excellence in teaching would be an advantage. Candidates with a master’s degree and less full-time teaching experience will be considered for the Assistant Lecturer position.
For this position, applicants should have experience in teaching academic English writing, public speaking, materials development, e-learning initiatives, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a large team of teachers. Those with insights into pedagogical innovations and the ability to implement them into projects and funding applications will be an asset to the Language Centre.
Applicants are required to specify how their qualifications match the above requirements in a cover letter and provide supporting documents in their applications. The initial appointment will be offered on a one- to two-year fixed-term contract beginning in September 2025. Re-appointment will be contingent on performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
