The University has taken a proactive role in ensuring and cultivating a positive learning environment for students, where holistic well-being and equal opportunities in academic and non-academic pursuit for each individual student are guaranteed. The Counseling and Wellness Center of the Dean of Students’ Office supports a wide range of services and resources to enhance students’ psychological health and ensure equal opportunity to benefit students from a total university experience and to cultivate campus inclusion.
The appointee will contribute to the Center’s initiatives in the following areas: (a) strengthening our comprehensive caring network among students; (b) providing independent administrative support to the Counseling and Wellness Center; (c) identifying wellness gaps and implementing creative and effective initiatives for the HKUST student community; (d) planning and delivering timely measures for crisis and suicide prevention; and (e) enhancing student outreach activities both on and off campus.
As a supportive community builder, the appointee is expected to work in close collaboration with Student Wellness Managers, faculty and staff within the university to help students resolve personal concerns and acquire the coping skills, attitudes, abilities and insights that will enable them to meet the challenges of student life. Irregular working hours may be required.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in psychology, counseling, social work or education with at least 7 years of relevant post-qualification work experience in youth development. Holders of a higher degree with at least 5 years of relevant work experience will also be considered for the Assistant Manager (Counseling and Wellness) position. Registration/eligibility for registration in relevant professional bodies will be an advantage. Fluency in Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) and English, excellent communication and sophisticated interpersonal skills, as well as group work and crisis intervention skills are required. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated ability to work with students at tertiary educational level, and those who have enthusiasm for enhancing the educational goals for university students. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
