Hong Kong Baptist University is a leading research liberal arts university in Asia. Founded in 1968, the School of Communication has three departments of 1) Journalism; 2) Communication Studies; and 3) Interactive Media. Together they offer seven programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate (MA, MPhil, PhD) levels to 2,000 students. As a leading school in the Asia-Pacific region, its faculty members work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary academic environment that entails collaboration across multiple fields of study. The newly established AI Media Center is at the forefront of pioneering research in media and communication, bringing together scholars from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, including communication studies, journalism, computer science, interaction design, gaming, animation, etc., to leverage AI technologies and develop cutting-edge research projects and applications to tackle current and future challenges.
The Department of Interactive Media (IMD) aims to nurture students to be the next generation of communication professionals poised to harness the latest digital media technologies to effectively deliver intended messages to target audiences with interactive and engaging contents on diverse media platforms.
Drawing upon over twenty years of consolidated experience of delivering courses related to game design and interactive applications, computer animation, and visual communication, the department’s Interactive Media Publishing (IMP) transdisciplinary programme is the first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong tertiary education. This innovative curriculum empowers students to harness their creative potential and effectively manage media content in the context of emerging interactive technologies.
The IMP curriculum provides a coherent learning experience, allowing students to build a strong foundation from the principles and theories of communication through School-based core courses. This communication foundation is further enhanced by advanced studies in interactive content development and management, equipping students with in-depth professional knowledge across related transdisciplinary fields.
Associate Professor of Practice (23241207)
The Department invites applications for full-time faculty position of Associate Professor of Practice in Interactive Media. We are particularly looking for candidates demonstrating excellence in both educational and industry practices across one or more of the following specialty fields.
- Interactive Media Publishing, Interactive Storytelling
- Digital Content Creation and Media Production Management
- User Experience Design for Interactive Platforms
- Transdisciplinary Media Management and Practices
- Media Ethics and Policy
- Intellectual Property Management and Regulations
- Game Design and Development
- Creative Technologies in New Media
- AI-Driven Media Solutions
- Extended Reality and Emerging Media Technology
Responsibilities:
- Lead educational initiatives and contribute to the academic development of the Department and its educational programmes;
- Deliver quality teaching and supervision in relevant discipline(s) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Pursue and secure competitive funding for teaching and project initiatives; and
- Engage in professional, institutional and community services.
Requirements:
- Holds a postgraduate degree or above, with a minimum of 12 years of post-qualification professional experience in a related academic field;
- Have extensive teaching and supervisory experience in interactive media are essential, along with a solid understanding of education, curriculum design, and pedagogical practices; and
- Demonstrate evidence or promise of practices and teaching that integrate communication and media theories into interactive media, game design, animation storytelling, and user experience will be highly desirable.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of up to three years commencing September 2025 or on a mutually agreed date. Re-appointments thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreement.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
