The Role
As Business Manager, you will oversee all aspects of non-academic operations - from finance and facilities to compliance and people management - ensuring that KGV operates smoothly, sustainably, and in alignment with its values and vision. You will work closely with the Principal and ESF Centre to support the school’s mission of providing a holistic, future-focused education for every student.
Key Responsibilities
- To develop, implement and sustain the strategic vision for the non-academic aspects of the school
- To ensure effective non-academic related leadership and management of the school
- Act as a key advisor to the Principal and School Council on all non-academic matters
- To lead and oversee the Finance/HR Manager to ensure effective financial management, including strategic planning, budgeting, procurement, asset management, and financial reporting
- To lead and oversee the Operations Manager to ensure effective day-to-day operations, administration, and facilities management that enables a safe, efficient, and sustainable learning environment
- Lead and foster KGV’s commitment to sustainability in all aspects of its operations
- Maintain oversight of support staff functions, including performance management, professional development and other relevant human resources activities
- Conduct regular strategic review and re-design of support staff structure and job roles to maximise work and cost efficiency while catering for staff career development and staff retention
- Lead, manage, review and advise on the selection, hiring, interviewing and employment of support staff
- Liaise with the ESF Centre, service providers, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and effective partnerships
- Contribute to and, where appropriate, lead strategic committees such as Health & Safety or Finance
- Promote the school’s values and mission by fostering a positive, professional culture that supports teaching, learning, and staff and student wellbeing
Governance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant ESF and school policies and procedures and resolve or escalate matters of non-compliance, as appropriate
- Develop and maintain the school’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant Hong Kong legislation as they apply to the school, and to comply with the school accreditation requirement
- Advise the Principal, the School Council, PTSA and ESF Centre (if appropriate) on all matters connected to compliance
Relationship Management
- Consistently champion and uphold the school's core values and foster caring, professional relationships
- Constant contact with all staff members to efficiently and effectively support teaching and learning
- Represent the school in managing non-educational, non-teaching accountabilities with internal and external stakeholders
- Liaise with other Business Managers to ensure consistency as much as possible across ESF schools
- Model exemplary professional practice
- Contribute to the creation of the school learning community, fostering a spirit of inquiry, innovation, trust, professional learning and reflection
- Promote high standards and expectations through supporting performance
Requirements
- Degree in Business Management, Accounting or related field (postgraduate qualification preferred)
- 10–15 years of senior experience in organisational/financial management
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and people management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Financial acumen and operational oversight across diverse functions
- Experience in education, non-profit, or service sectors is desirable
