We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Center Technician with hands-on experience in hardware decommissioning, asset management, and secure disposal processes. The ideal candidate will support data center operations by disassembling, tracking, and securely disposing of IT assets, ensuring compliance with security and inventory standards. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, meticulous record-keeping, and adherence to data security protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hardware Decommissioning & Disposal: Disassemble servers, storage devices, networking gear, and other data center hardware. Perform secure wiping of drives and components, ensuring data security compliance.
- Asset Inventory Management: Manage asset lifecycle through barcode scanning, logging decommissioned equipment, and maintaining accurate inventory records. Support asset audits and reconciliation processes.
- Secure Disposal & Data Security: Follow established protocols for secure chain-of-custody during hardware disposal, including secure data wiping, physical destruction, and documentation.
- Data Center Operations Support: Assist with hardware replacement, component troubleshooting, and physical setup. Support shift operations and provide 24/7 operational assistance as required.
- Cable Management & Physical Security: Organize and label cables, racks, and hardware components to maintain a tidy and secure data center environment.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with IT teams, security personnel, logistics staff, and vendors to facilitate smooth operations, asset transfer, and disposal activities.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to IT asset disposal protocols, physical security standards, and regulatory requirements through proper documentation and audit support.
- Troubleshooting & Incident Support: Provide remote troubleshooting support, escalate incidents as needed, and assist with hardware replacements or repairs.
- Training & Knowledge Sharing: Support cross-training initiatives and share best practices with team members to enhance operational efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven hands-on experience in hardware decommissioning, asset management, and disposal in a data center environment.
- Strong knowledge of data center hardware: servers, HDDs/SSDs, memory modules, power supplies, and networking equipment.
- Familiarity with data security and IT asset disposal protocols.
- Ability to disassemble and reassemble hardware components safely and efficiently.
- Experience with inventory management tools, barcode scanning, and audit support.
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.
- Physical capability to handle hardware components and perform physical tasks as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Data Center Certified Technician, or similar.
- Experience with data wiping tools and secure disposal methods.
- Knowledge of physical security standards and compliance.
Work Environment & Schedule: This role requires flexibility to work in shifts, including nights and weekends, and physical ability to handle hardware equipment.
