Founded in 1968, Department of Journalism is part of School of Communication, and remains one of the best-known journalism faculties in Hong Kong. In fact, many of the city's top media professionals are our graduates, including the top executives of some leading media organisations. The department is now offering journalism and digital media as a major undergraduate programme with two concentrations: Journalism, and Digital & Media Communication. Its faculty members also work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary academic environment that entails collaboration across multiple fields of study.
Research Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor (23240223)
The Department invites applications for full-time faculty positions of Research Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in Journalism, Media and Communication Studies. The following specialty fields are based on the department's strengths, disciplines, and teaching/research areas.
- Journalism and Media Studies;
- Broadcast Journalism and Social Media;
- Digital Journalism;
- Data Journalism;
- Emerging Media Studies;
- Global/International Communications;
- AI/Computational Communication; and
- Interactive Media.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct cutting-edge research and contribute to the research strengths of the Department;
- Deliver quality teaching and supervision in relevant discipline(s) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Obtain competitive research grants; and
- Engage in professional, institutional and community services.
Requirements:
- Hold a Ph.D. degree in related field(s);
- Have a solid research track record and active research agenda;
- Show evidence-based research impact and publications in international refereed journals;
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching; and
- Have competitive research grant records and an outstanding record of achievement in scholarship for appointments at senior ranks.
The appointee will be allocated to one of the three departments based on his/her research field, teaching area and/or other relevant expertise. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of up to three years commencing September 2023 or on a mutually agreed date. Re-appointments thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreement. Tenured appointments are expected to be attained in 6 years. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor or above may be considered for walk-in tenure on appointment.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
