Senior Research Assistant / Research Assistant (25260136)
The Academy of Geography, Sociology and International Studies, would like to seek applicants for Research Assistant with a strong interest in researching tourism and Chinese nationalism.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Principal Investigator on the research projects related to tourism and Chinese nationalism;
- Analyse online source material using Little Red Book (小红书) for data collection;
- Code major themes from collected data;
- Conduct interviews and quantitative research as needed;
- Perform literature reviews with a focus on sociological research logic; and
- Collaborate on papers, with potential for co-authorship.
Requirements:
- Possess a bachelor's or master's degree in social science, digital humanities, communications, or a quantitative field;
- Strong research publication track record;
- Possess qualitative and quantitative analytical capability and effective communication skills;
- Good command of written English and Chinese; and
- Familiarity with social media using Little Red Book (小红书) in mainland China is highly recommended.
It would be advantageous if you have knowledge of or interest in learning about:
- Sociology of emotions and/or sentiment analysis;
- Using online text mining tools or implementing new tools (e.g., machine learning) to analyse big data;
- Tourism in China or Asia; or
- Nationalism and political emotions.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of one year, with the possibility of extension.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
