The Division of Social Science invites applications for a Research Assistant position to work under the supervision of Dr. Shaocong Ma on projects exploring social and cognitive development in children, with a focus on how children observe and interact within their social environments.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Prepare research materials (including literature review) and manage datasets.
- Recruit and communicate with study participants, including families and schools.
- Conduct research studies (in-person and remotely) with young children and adults in Chinese.
- Code data and perform preliminary statistical analyses.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the research team.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Mandarin Chinese (proficiency in Cantonese is advantageous but not required).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills for engaging with participants’ families and schools.
- Experience working with young children is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with R/RStudio and SPSS/Jamovi is preferred.
- Expertise in structural equation modelling (SEM) is an advantage.
The position is for a one-year term, with an expected start date as soon as possible. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and fringe benefits, including annual leave, medical, and dental benefits, will be provided.
